From Classroom to Community—Better Outcomes Together.

Why I Entered Public Service

“Four years ago, amidst school closures and the pandemic, I ran for the APS Board of Education because I knew our students deserved better.

As a proud product of APS and a mom of two current APS students, I believed we needed a school system that puts student success above all else. I ran to amplify the voices of parents, bring accountability to district leadership, and ensure that APS had a clear vision for academic progress. Most of all, I ran to deliver on what matters most - outcomes for our kids.”

Meet Courtney

Courtney Jackson is a dedicated advocate for students, families, and the Albuquerque community. Courtney was elected to the APS board in 2021 and now serves as Board Vice President. In her first term, she has been unapologetically focused on improving student outcomes, strengthening community involvement, and ensuring transparency in decision-making.

A proud native of New Mexico, Courtney is a graduate of La Cueva High School, the University of New Mexico, and the UNM School of Law. With a strong foundation in law, business, and education, she brings valuable expertise to her leadership roles, including her work with the Economic Forum of Albuquerque.

Courtney has a long history of community service, holding leadership positions, such as past president of the Junior League of Albuquerque, board member of the APS Education Foundation, two-term PTA president, and Girl Scouts troop leader. She is a firm believer in the power of high expectations, strong partnerships, and data-driven decision-making to drive educational excellence.

Motivated by her two school-aged daughters and a deep passion for ensuring all students have the support they need to succeed, Courtney is committed to continuing her work to strengthen APS and build a brighter future for our city.

Courtney Delivers:

- Led the development of APS’s first strategic plan in over a decade, creating a long-term roadmap for student success.

- Helped implement a Student Outcomes Focused Governance model, using data to drive better decision-making and ensuring our board is focused on what matters most - improving student learning.

- Ensured greater transparency and accountability in district budgeting, requiring that every dollar align with the strategic plan so that resources go where they matter most: supporting students, not bureaucracy.

- Championed the addition of financial literacy as a graduation requirement, equipping students with real-world skills to succeed after high school.

- Tied the superintendent’s contract to student achievement goals, with progress publicly reported each quarter to build trust and transparency.

- Expanded community engagement, including hosting the first-ever APS budget community conversations and developing a two-year engagement plan.

- Championed the Student and Parent Rights and Responsibilities policy, giving families clearer access to vital information.

What’s Left to Do

There’s still important work ahead, and I’m ready to keep pushing forward ↠

  • Improve student achievement in reading and math by fully executing the strategic plan and holding APS accountable to its goals.

  • Expand access to career and college pathways, ensuring every student graduates with meaningful opportunities.

  • Strengthen parent and student engagement, continuing to build trust and two-way communication across our communities.

  • Ensure that every decision is student-centered and data-informed, not political or reactive.

  • Sustain transparency and accountability at every level, from the boardroom to the classroom.

APS has made real progress - but we can’t afford to slow down. I’m running for re-election to keep putting students first and to help every child in our district thrive.
